ICONIC IMAGE

Emmeline Pankhurst is arrested attempting to enter Buckingham Palace 21st May 1914. Chief Inspector Rolfe, the officer arresting her, died two weeks later of a heart attack.

Venetia Stanley was an important part in Asquith's personal and political life. She was his "darling". His letters to her, outlining his thoughts and feelings towards events and his political contemporaries are a valuable historical source.

A very well-researched book with lots of additional information on the lives of the Leighton and Britain but also their families. Recommended to anyone with an interest in this era and Vera Brittain.
